Quick Swirl: Columbia Crest 2002 Gewurztraminer (PB)

This wine with the funny name comes from the steadily burgeoning enophilic endeavors of Washington State. This is a sweet wine that will thrill the mouths of people who aren’t too enamored with real wine in general. (I can’t imagine such a thing but it is not uncommon.) It is a gentle golden color with an astounding bouquet of peaches, pears and especially fresh ripe apples. This is not unique to this wine, but is typical of this grape pronounced Ga-VURTS-tra-meen-er. This wine in particular is a bit flabby meaning it is a bit weak in acid which gives the natural sweetness a bit cloying but it is not to the point of a flaw. Keep in mind however, I am a Gewurztraminer fan and I don’t believe I have ever had a bad one at any price. This one at $7 should be served well chilled even poured into a frosted stem. It is nice as an aperitif or even with desert (depending on what desert is) or all by itself as a dinner finisher. Pick one up and raise a glass!
